Lyrical Dissection: Selena Gomez “Come & Get It”

This is Lyrical Dissection. A new feature at Nerd With An Afro where I take a song and analyze its lyrics. It’s not gonna be simple, but somebody’s gotta do it. Our first song for dissecting, Selena Gomez “Come & Get It.”
When you’re ready come and get it
Na na na na [3x]
When you’re ready come and get it
Na na na na [3x]
When you’re ready
When you’re ready
When you’re ready come and get it
Na na na na [3x]
Oh, great. It’s this repetitive bullshit, one of the many I hate about terrible pop music. When she says “when you’re ready, come and get it,” it’s obviously a euphemism for sex. She’s basically telling the dude “when your dick’s hard, come fuck me.” Most of the times, a chorus to a particular song will tell you what that song is about and this is no exception. Without listening to the rest of this song, I already know it’s about doing the nasty.
You ain’t gotta worry, it’s an open invitation
I’ll be sittin’ right here, real patient
All day, all night, I’ll be waitin’ standby
Can’t stop because I love it, hate the way I love you
All day, all night, maybe I’m addicted for life, no lie.
Here, Selena is saying she’ll be waiting on this guy all day and all night with her legs wide open for this dude to fuck her. She can’t stop because she “loves it,” basically admitting to being a sex addict. She also says she “hates the way” she loves this guy. If that’s true, get some help, bitch.
I’m not too shy to show I love you, I got no regrets.
I love you much, too much to hide you, this love ain’t finished yet.
This love ain’t finished yet…
So baby whenever you’re ready…

Okay, now she’s proud of being a sex addict and has no regrets about it. I don’t know if Selena realizes that’s a problem. She says “this love ain’t finished yet,” basically, she wants to bang more. I betcha if she was finished, her coochie would be worn out from the non-stop pounding it receives. The last line transitions into the chorus, which repeats itself.

You got the kind of love that I want, let me get that.
And baby once I get it, I’m yours no take backs.
Gon’ love you for life, I ain’t leaving your side
Even if you knock it, ain’t no way to stop it
Forever you’re mine, baby I’m addicted, no lie, no lie.
Does the dude that Selena is singing about have a big dick or something? That’s what I got from the first two lines. Then she says she’ll love this dude for life and she won’t leave his side. We’ll see how true that is when he fucks up. This line, “even if you knock it, ain’t no way to stop it,” sounds a little creepy and rape-ish. ????
I’m not too shy to show I love you, I got no regrets.
So baby whenever you’re ready…

She’s basically repeating lines from the previous verse. Lazy songwriting, anyone?

This love will be the death of me
But I know I’ll die happily
I’ll know, I’ll know, I’ll know
Because you love me so… yeah
Is it possible to die from too much banging? I’m just curious because that sounds like one of the best ways to die.
This song has been rumored to be about Selena’s on-again/off-again douchebag boyfriend, Justin Bieber, which she denies. This song is also your typical generic pop song backed up by a shitty dubstep beat with congas. Most kid stars (not all of them) are a bunch of untalented, annoying hacks and they become even bigger, untalented, annoying attention whores (what up, Miley?) when they grow up. Fortunately for Selena, she’s one of the few kid stars who has legit talent and isn’t annoying. I’m not even a fan, but I recognize her talent and I have respect for her. My prediction is that as long as she doesn’t make any stupid decisions, she’ll have good, long career unlike 90% of every kid star that’s out now. But she’s wasting that talent on these shitty songs, like this song and this audio piece of dogshit below.
Horrible. But I understand why Selena did “Come & Get It.” It’s her letting the world know that she’s an adult and not a Disney kid anymore and her trying to gain a mature audience to take her place in the industry as the next Madonna, Britney Spears, or Christina Aguilera. But there’s other ways for Selena to be a mature artist like making great music that doesn’t sound generic or shitty. So good luck with your career, Selena.
This has been LYRICAL DISSECTION. You are dismissed.
A’ight, peace out!!
