Welcome back. Now that the Grammys and the Super Bowl are over and the Oscars are coming up, let’s talk about the 40 hottest songs in the country. You all know the schtick by now, so let’s not waste time and start now.
#40. Safe And Sound-Capital Cities: 00000/00000
#39. Whatever She’s Got-David Nail: Tell you the truth, this is a pretty decent song. I can’t find anything god-awful about it. It’s your typical country song, so it brings nothing special to the table. In spite of that, this song is still cool. It’s catchy, it’s nicely produced, and it’s not that annoying. I give it a 4 outta 5.
#38. Young Girls-Bruno Mars: This isn’t my favorite Bruno Mars song, but it’s still good. It has a cool beat and is sung well, but the hook isn’t that catchy and that’s saying a lot because Bruno can write catchy hooks. This is actually the first track on Unorthodox Jukebox and it sets the whole thing right. It’s a good way to start the album. It’s not Bruno’s best song, but I like it okay. I give it a 4 outta 5.
#37. Hey Brother-Avicii: This is the follow up to Avicii’s huge hit Wake Me Up and it’s pretty good, though not as great as the other song. Like Wake Me Up, Hey Brother is a folksy country-dance fusion done well. The vocalist of this song is bluegrass singer Dan Tyminski and he does this track justice. It’s fun to sing and dance to and the beat is great. Overall, I give it a 4 outta 5.
#36. Do What U Want-Lady Gaga ft R. Kelly: 0/00000
#35. Drink A Beer-Luke Bryan: 00000/00000
#34. Best Day Of My Life-American Authors: 000/00000
#33. Love Me Again-John Newman: When I first heard this song, I heard a few seconds of it and thought it was just another piano ballad, but then I heard the full song and it was more than that. This is actually a dope song. The piano intro was epic as shit, the hook is catchy, there’s som much soul, and I like the production. It sounds like a mash-up of Coldplay and OneRepublic (which makes sense since OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder wrote the song alongside Newman). It’s definitely a breath of fresh air in the wake of slow ballads that conquered last year. I give this a perfect 5 outta 5.
#32. Sweater Weather-The Neighbourhood: 00000/00000
#31. Blurred Lines-Robin Thicke ft T.I. & Pharrell: 0000/00000
#30. Stay The Night-Zedd ft Hayley Williams: 0000/00000
#29. White Walls-Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft ScHoolboy Q & Hollis: 0000/00000
#28. Hold On, We’re Going Home-Drake ft Majid Jordan: 0/00000
#27. Wrecking Ball-Miley Cyrus: 0/00000
#26. My Nigga-YG ft Jeezy & Rich Homie Quan: 0/00000
#25. Adore You-Miley Cyrus: 0/00000
#24. Let It Go-Idina Menzel: 0000/00000
#23. Brave-Sara Bareilles: 000/00000
#22. Show Me-Kid Ink ft Chris Brown: 0/00000
#21. The Man-Aloe Blacc: After being featured on Wake Me Up, Aloe Blacc achieved international success. During the time the song was big, Aloe released this track off his Wake Me Up EP, The Man. I like this song. It’s soulful, it’s catchy, the music’s dope, I have no problems with this song. Aloe Blacc is a really cool singer and he deserves recognition. I give this a 5 outta 5.
#20. Roar-Katy Perry: 0/00000
#19. Wake Me Up-Avicii: 00000/00000
#18. Demons-Imagine Dragons: 00000/00000
#17. All Of Me-John Legend: This is a romantic piano ballad done right. It’s nothing more than a piano and John Legend’s vocals, very simple. His delivery was excellent. You can truly feel the emotion behind his voice. That’s what makes a ballad like this work, the emotion put into it. Without that, this song would be real boring. I haven’t heard John Legend’s album Love In The Future, but I’ll definitely check it out. So I give this a 5 outta 5.
#16. Burn-Ellie Goulding: 00000/00000
#15. Can’t Remember To Forget You-Shakira ft Rihanna: Can’t Remember To Forget You is the recent single from my wifey, Shakira. Oh, yeah, and Rihanna is on this, too. Anyways, I think this song is… okay. I’m not too crazy about it. It has that pop-rock style to it and Shakira delivers a good performance, though she does sound like a goat having an orgasm sometimes. Rihanna, I feel like, was very unnecessary here. This song could’ve been better without her. And I don’t feel any chemistry between the two ladies. I think they were put together to do this song because they’re both sexy as hell and they wanted to do the video for the song, which is basically like softcore porn. Anyways, this is a decent song but I can’t give it a high grade. I’ll just give it a 3 outta 5.
#14. Story Of My Life-One Direction: 0/00000
#13. Radioactive-Imagine Dragons: 00000/00000
#12. The Monster-Eminem ft Rihanna: 000/00000
#11. Pompeii-Bastille: 000/00000
#10. Team-Lorde: 00000/00000
#9. Royals-Lorde: 00000/00000
#8. Happy-Pharrell Williams: My God. This song literally makes me happy. It’s up-beat and funky, it’s catchy, it gets stuck in your head all day, it’s just fun. Anytime you’re in a bad mood, play this song and your frown will turn upside down. Pharrell is a musical genius. After ruling 2013 with hit songs like Get Lucky and Blurred Lines, he did this song for the soundtrack of Despicable Me 2. While other songs deal with love and all of that crap, this song is about being happy. Sometimes, you need a little happiness in your life and this song is full of it. I can’t get enough of it. Happy is one of the best songs on the charts right now, it NEEDS to be number one, it deserve it unlike some of the other crap on here. This cheerful joy gets a 5 outta 5.
#7. Say Something-A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera: 0000/00000
#6. Let Her Go-Passenger: 000/00000
#5. Counting Stars-OneRepublic: 0000/00000
#4. Talk Dirty-Jason Derulo ft 2 Chainz: Why, people? WHY?! Why is this shit THIS high on the charts? The only good thing about it is the beat, but that’s it, plus, good beats don’t automatically make a song good. This song is stupid. It’s Jason Derulo, AKA the poor man’s Chris Brown, being a douchebag, trying to pick up girls. It’s everything you’d expect from these type of songs. Plus, we get an unnecessarily terrible guest verse from 2 Chainz. I’m not even gonna discuss the lyrics at all because what’s the point? (note to self, do a post on Talk Dirty) World, can you please stop buying/downloading these douchebags’ music? And can we please send Jason Derulo back to the irrelevant 2009 where he belongs? Fuck this disgusting pile of gorilla shit. This gets a 1 outta 5.
#3. Timber-Pitbull ft Ke$ha: 0/00000
#2. Drunk In Love-Beyonce ft Jay Z: 000/00000
#1. Dark Horse-Katy Perry ft Juicy J: 0/00000
So those were the Top 40 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 as of February 9, 2014. Stay tuned next month when I do another Top 40 Review.
